A large number of clinical studies suggested that surgery might be a better choice than conservative treatment for treating hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage in the middle-aged and elderly. Stereotactic puncture can reduce the mass effect caused by hematoma, reduce the intervention of body homeostasis, reduce brain tissue damage, and improve the prognosis of patients with cerebral hemorrhage. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate the efficacy of stereotactic puncture and craniotomy in elderly patients with hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage.
H19, a well-known long non-coding RNA, is involved in carcinogenesis and progression of multiple cancers. Molecular epidemiological research suggests that polymorphisms in H19 are associated with an increased risk of cancer, but the results are inconsistent. Thus, we performed a meta-analysis to estimate the associations between H19 polymorphisms and cancer susceptibility.
Programmed cell death-ligands 1 (PD-L1) is a key immune checkpoint protein and a promising therapeutic target for malignancy tumor immunotherapy. The prognostic value of PD-L1 in patients with bone and soft tissue sarcoma remains controversial. Therefore, this meta-analysis is conducted to evaluate the associations of PD-L1 expression with overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and clinicopathological characteristics of sarcomaA comprehensive literature search of PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane Library was conducted for relevant studies. A total of 14 studies published from 2013 to 2017 were included. The pooled hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were extracted from included studies to assess the association between PD-L1 expression and OS, PFS of patients with sarcoma. Other relevant data were extracted to evaluate the correlations of PD-L1 expression with risk and clinicopathological characteristics of sarcoma. Stata 12.0 software was applied to calculate the strength of association between PD-L1 expression and sarcoma. In total, 14 articles containing 15 independent studies and 1,451 patients were included in this meta-analysis. We found that the high PD-L1 expression was associated with poorer overall survival (HR 1.27, 95% CI: 0.70-1.84 P = .000) and poorer events-free survival (HR 2.05, 95% CI: 1.55-2.70, P = .000) in bone and soft-tissue sarcoma patients. Additionally, we conducted subgroup analysis according to histology type, ethnicity, target of PD-L1 assessment, cutoff, the significant correlations with poor overall survival and events-free survival were also observed. In contrast none of the clinicopathological characteristics (gender, age, tumor site, tumor grade, tumor depth, tumor necrosis rate, metastasis, recurrence, chemotherapy, radiotherapy) was found to be associated with PD-L1 expression in our analysis. The findings from this meta-analysis indicate that PD-L1 expression might be a useful predicative factor of poor prognosis for patients with bone and soft tissue sarcoma.
The effectiveness of therapeutic hypothermia (TH) for patients following cardiac arrest with non-shockable rhythm is debated. We plan to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis with all available randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to explore the efficacy and safety of TH in in this population.
Delirium is a commonly occurred complication in the critically ill. Melatonin is an endogenous hormone exerting multiple biological effects, mainly in regulating diurnal rhythms, also in inflammatory process and immune response. We aimed to assess the efficacy of exogenous melatonergics in prevention of delirium.
The 2019 novel coronavirus disease has caused a global pandemic with substantial morbidity and mortality. Chinese medicine has been extensively employed in the coronavirus-related pandemic in China. We aim to assess the efficacy and safety of Chinese medicine in treatment of coronavirus-related pneumonia with the updated results of relevant clinical trials.
We attempted to investigate the mechanism and susceptibility genes for diabetes in Han and Kazak ethnic individuals. The abdominal omental adipose tissues were obtained from diabetic cases and healthy controls. The gene expression and methylation data were produced for Kazak and Han individuals, respectively, and analyzed by bioinformatics analysis. We obtained 921 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in Han group and 1772 in Kazak group. DEGs in Han group were significantly related with type 2 diabetes mellitus, and biosynthesis of amino acids, while the DEGs specific to Kazak patients were significantly enriched in metabolism-related pathways such as carbon metabolism, propanoate metabolism, and 2-oxocarboxylic acid metabolism. Major facilitator superfamily domain containing 1 (MFSD1) was found to be a methylation associated gene at hypermethylation site of cg16289538 in Han group. Rho guanine nucleotide exchange factor 1 (ARHGEF1) was the susceptible gene corresponding to the methylation sites of cg18800192 and cg00759295 in Kazak group. ARHGEF1 was also a node in protein-protein interaction network and significantly enriched in hsa04270: vascular smooth muscle contraction pathways. The molecular mechanism of diabetes may be different in Han and Kazak patients. MFSD1 and ARHGEF1 may be the diabetes susceptible genes.
Electroacupuncture (EA) treatment has antidepressant effect and when patients were treated with EA and antidepressants, the effect could be maintained for a longer time. However, the effect of EA combined with antidepressants based on metabolism is still in the initial observation stage, which requires further research.
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury experiences about 200,000 isolated cases annually, and ACL reconstruction has become the gold standard for the restoration of stability and functionality. In view of that incorrect graft placement is a common cause of ACL reconstruction failure, it is critically important to ensure that the tibial and femoral tunnels are properly placed during the operation. Therefore, we intend to conduct a network meta-analysis to comparatively evaluate the clinical outcomes among the different surgical techniques in ACL reconstruction.
The association between hypertension and obesity has been confirmed, while no agreement has been reached about which anthropometric adiposity index is the best. This meta-analysis aimed to perform a systematic review and meta-analysis on the associations of hypertension risk with body mass index (BMI), waist circumstance (WC), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR), and a prospective urban and rural epidemiology study from China (PURE-China) was added into this meta-analysis as an individual study.
Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) showed promising therapeutic efficacy on melanoma. Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) showed predictive values on prognosis of various tumors, but not on melanoma yet. This meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the prognostic role of NLR and LDH levels in melanoma treated with ICIs.
