The BAC vector carries a gpt gene, driven by the HSV tk promoter; the gpt gene is followed by the SV40 polyA signal sequence (ca 125 bp). The BAC vector is terminally flanked by loxP sites. The plasmid contains also a 1.5 kb EcoRI-fragment from the murine herpesvirus MHV68. The sequence of pK18 is available from Genbank ACCESSION M17626.
