The Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study is the largest long-term study of brain development and child health in the United States. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded leading researchers in the fields of adolescent development and neuroscience to conduct this ambitious project. The ABCD Research Consortium consists of a Coordinating Center, a Data Analysis and Informatics Center, and 21 research sites across the country (see map), which will invite approximately 10,000 children ages 9-10 to join the study. Researchers will track their biological and behavioral development through adolescence into young adulthood. Using cutting-edge technology, scientists will determine how childhood experiences (such as sports, videogames, social media, unhealthy sleep patterns, and smoking) interact with each other and with a child’s changing biology to affect brain development and social, behavioral, academic, health, and other outcomes. The results of the ABCD Study will provide families; school superintendents, principals, and teachers; health professionals; and policymakers with practical information to promote the health, well-being, and success of children. The ABCD Study, in partnership with the NIMH Data Archive (NDA), is releasing fast-track data containing unprocessed neuroimaging data from ABCD Study participants to date, as well as basic participant demographics (age, sex), including: High-resolution structural data (3D T1 - and T2 - weighted scans) Advanced diffusion MRI (multiple b-values and directions) Resting State fMRI Task fMRI (Monetary Incentive Delay, Stop-Signal, and Emotional N-Back), along with raw E-Prime task files for each fMRI run Neuroimaging data are collected using a harmonized Human Connectome protocol, developed for the ABCD Study, and supported across all three major MRI scanner platforms (Siemens, General Electric, and Philips). Fast track data are in DICOM format as provided by the MRI scanners and have not undergone quality control or curation. As such, these data are most suitable for technical methods development, as the DICOM images would require pre-processing (e.g., distortion correction, movement correction, alignment) to be suitable for data analysis. The ABCD Study is designed to include a diverse population that reflects the demographics of the U.S., however these interim data may not capture that diversity as enrollment is not yet complete. Fast-track data will be released monthly.

The NAD/NADH-Glo and NADP/NADPH-Glo Assays are bioluminescent, homogeneous, single-reagent-addition methods to rapidly detect NAD+ and NADH and NADP+ and NADPH levels in cells and enzymatic reactions. Current methods to detect nicotinamide adenine dinucleotides lack sensitivity and reproducibility and require sample manipulation and large numbers of cells for cell-based applications. The assay is easily adapted for inhibitor screening in high-throughput formats. The sensitivity and robustness of the assay chemistry allow fewer cells to be used to detect individual nucleotides directly in multiwell plates or analysis of enzymes with low activity or with low Km values.
