Resveratrol enhances the antimicrobial effect of polymyxin B on Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli isolates with polymyxin B resistance.

  • Li Liu‎ et al.
  • BMC microbiology‎
  • 2020‎

Multidrug resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacterial infections are a serious threat to human health due to the lack of effective treatments. In this study, we selected 50 Gram-negative bacterial strains, including 26 strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae and 24 strains of Escherichia coli, to explore whether resveratrol and polymyxin B have a synergistic killing effect.

Dissemination of fusidic acid resistance among Staphylococcus aureus clinical isolates.

  • Fangyou Yu‎ et al.
  • BMC microbiology‎
  • 2015‎

A significant trend towards increased fusidic acid (FA) resistance among Staphylococcus aureus with increased duration of use is of concern. The aim of the present study is to investigate the dissemination of fusidic acid resistance among Staphylococcus aureus clinical isolates.

The small molecule ZY-214-4 may reduce the virulence of Staphylococcus aureus by inhibiting pigment production.

  • Jingyi Yu‎ et al.
  • BMC microbiology‎
  • 2021‎

In recent years, clinical Staphylococcus aureus isolates have become highly resistant to antibiotics, which has raised concerns about the ability to control infections by these organisms. The aim of this study was to clarify the effect of a new small molecule, ZY-214-4 (C19H11BrNO4), on S. aureus pigment production.

Impact of the Staphylococcus epidermidis LytSR two-component regulatory system on murein hydrolase activity, pyruvate utilization and global transcriptional profile.

  • Tao Zhu‎ et al.
  • BMC microbiology‎
  • 2010‎

Staphylococcus epidermidis has emerged as one of the most important nosocomial pathogens, mainly because of its ability to colonize implanted biomaterials by forming a biofilm. Extensive studies are focused on the molecular mechanisms involved in biofilm formation. The LytSR two-component regulatory system regulates autolysis and biofilm formation in Staphylococcus aureus. However, the role of LytSR played in S. epidermidis remained unknown.

Role of the SaeRS two-component regulatory system in Staphylococcus epidermidis autolysis and biofilm formation.

  • Qiang Lou‎ et al.
  • BMC microbiology‎
  • 2011‎

Staphylococcus epidermidis (SE) has emerged as one of the most important causes of nosocomial infections. The SaeRS two-component signal transduction system (TCS) influences virulence and biofilm formation in Staphylococcus aureus. The deletion of saeR in S. epidermidis results in impaired anaerobic growth and decreased nitrate utilization. However, the regulatory function of SaeRS on biofilm formation and autolysis in S. epidermidis remains unclear.

Distribution of fluoroquinolone resistance determinants in Carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae clinical isolates associated with bloodstream infections in China.

  • Qing Zhan‎ et al.
  • BMC microbiology‎
  • 2021‎

The rate of fluoroquinolone (FQ) resistance among carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) is high. The present study aimed to investigate the distribution of fluoroquinolone resistance determinants in clinical CRKP isolates associated with bloodstream infections (BSIs).

Antimicrobial susceptibility, virulence determinants profiles and molecular characteristics of Staphylococcus epidermidis isolates in Wenzhou, eastern China.

  • Yinjuan Guo‎ et al.
  • BMC microbiology‎
  • 2019‎

Staphylococcus epidermidis has emerged as an often encountered pathogen responsible for hospital-acquired infections. The aim of present study is to investigate the microbiological characteristic of S. epidermidis isolates isolated from sterile specimens and skin in a Chinese tertiary hospital.
