Attentional selection predicts rapid automatized naming ability in Chinese-speaking children with ADHD.

Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are reported to have a significantly higher risk of showing reading difficulties or disorders. Here, we aimed to identify the relationship between electroencephalographic (EEG) marker of spatial attention and reading ability in Chinese children with ADHD. First, we demonstrated that rapid automatized naming (RAN) is a strong predictor of reading ability in Chinese-speaking children. Then, EEG data of 9-to 15-year-old children with ADHD (n = 38) and typically developing (TD) controls (n = 36) were collected while the children performed a classical visual search task. Children with ADHD showed slower RAN speed than TD children. For event-related potentials (ERPs), children with ADHD showed a reduced target-evoked N2pc component, which predicted their poorer RAN performance. However, in TD children the early occipital P1 amplitude was negatively correlated with their RAN performance. The correlation between decreased N2pc and poor RAN performance in children with ADHD suggests that their reading problems may in part be due to impaired attentional selection. In contrast, in TD children, development in early visual processing co-occurs with improvements in reading ability.


Correlation between electrical characteristics and biomarkers in breast cancer cells.

Both electrical properties and biomarkers of biological tissues can be used to distinguish between normal and diseased tissues, and the correlations between them are critical for clinical applications of conductivity (σ) and permittivity (ε); however, these correlations remain unknown. This study aimed to investigate potential correlations between electrical characteristics and biomarkers of breast cancer cells (BCC). Changes in σ and ε of different components in suspensions of normal cells and BCC were analyzed in the range of 200 kHz-5 MHz. Pearson's correlation coefficient heatmap was used to investigate the correlation between σ and ε of the cell suspensions at different stages and biomarkers of cell growth and microenvironment. σ and ε of the cell suspensions closely resembled those of tissues. Further, the correlations between Na+/H+ exchanger 1 and ε and σ of cell suspensions were extremely significant among all biomarkers (pε < 0.001; pσ < 0.001). There were significant positive correlations between cell proliferation biomarkers and ε and σ of cell suspensions (pε/σ < 0.05). The microenvironment may be crucial in the testing of cellular electrical properties. ε and σ are potential parameters to characterize the development of breast cancer.


New molecular insights into the tyrosyl-tRNA synthase inhibitors: CoMFA, CoMSIA analyses and molecular docking studies.

Drug resistance caused by excessive and indiscriminate antibiotic usage has become a serious public health problem. The need of finding new antibacterial drugs is more urgent than ever before. Tyrosyl-tRNA synthase was proved to be a potent target in combating drug-resistant bacteria. In silico methodologies including molecular docking and 3D-QSAR were employed to investigate a series of newly reported tyrosyl-tRNA synthase inhibitors of furanone derivatives. Both internal and external cross-validation were conducted to obtain high predictive and satisfactory CoMFA model (q 2 = 0.611, r 2pred  = 0.933, r 2m  = 0.954) and CoMSIA model (q 2 = 0.546, r 2pred  = 0.959, r 2m  = 0.923). Docking results, which correspond with CoMFA/CoMSIA contour maps, gave the information for interactive mode exploration. Ten new molecules designed on the basis of QSAR and docking models have been predicted more potent than the most active compound 3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4-(2-morpholinoethoxy)furan-2(5H)-one (15) in the literatures. The results expand our understanding of furanones as inhibitors of tyrosyl-tRNA synthase and could be helpful in rationally designing of new analogs with more potent inhibitory activities.


Prospective Study on Association of Prostatic Calcifications with Clinical Symptoms and Results of Treatment in Men with type III prostatitis.

The purpose is to investigate the clinical significance of prostatic calculi in patients with chronic prostatitis and to discuss the possible treatment.The data from 277 young males with CP/CPPS were analyzed prospectively. Symptom severity was measured using the National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (NIH-CPSI) and the International Prostatic Symptoms Score (IPSS). Sexual function was assessed by the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) questionnaire. After four weeks of therapy, the NIH-CPSI, IPSS, and IIEF-5 tests were repeated. The variables were compared between patients with and without prostatic calcifications using the Students t-test or chi-square test. No significant differences were found between CP/CPPS patients with and without prostatic calcifications regarding age, body mass index, prostate volume, CPSI, IPSS and IIEF-5. Men with calcifications endured symptoms significantly longer (37.9 ± 25.2 versus 19.0 ± 16.4 months, P < 0.01), and had significantly higher white blood cell counts per high power field in expressed prostatic secretions (7.7 ± 12.8 versus 3.9 ± 4.7; P < 0.01), than patients without prostatic calcifications, who responded better to medication compared with patients with prostatic calcifications. In conclusion, patients with calcifications were more likely to have category IIIA disease and they required a longer medication period.


An improved Lagrangian relaxation algorithm based SDN framework for industrial internet hybrid service flow scheduling.

The Industrial Internet is the key for Industry 4.0, and network control in the industrial internet usually requires high reliability and low latency. The industrial internet ubiquitously connects all relevant Internet of things (IoT) sensing and actuating devices, allowing for monitoring and control of multiple industrial systems. Unfortunately, guaranteeing very low end-to-end wait times is particularly challenging because the transmissions must be articulated in time. In the industrial internet, there usually coexist multiple streams. The amount of data for controlling business flows is small, while other business flows (e.g., interactive business flows, sensing business flows) typically transmit large amounts of data across the network. These data flows are mainly processed in traditional switches using a queue-based "store-and-forward" mode for data exchange, consuming much bandwidth and filling up the network buffers. This causes delays in the control flow. In our research, we propose an Software Defined Networking (SDN) framework to reduce such delays and ensure real-time delivery of mixed service flows. The scheduling policy is performed through the northbound Application Programming Interface (API) of the SDN controller so that the dynamic network topology can be satisfied. We use the concept of edge and intermediate switches, where each switch port sends data at a specific time to avoid queuing intermediate switches. We also introduce an improved Langerian relaxation algorithm to select the best path to ensure low latency. Finally, the path rules are deployed to the switches in flow tables through the SDN controller. Our mathematical analysis and simulation evaluation demonstrates that the proposed scheme is more efficient.


Development and Evaluation of 18F-IRS for Molecular Imaging Mutant EGF Receptors in NSCLC.

To prepare and evaluate a new radiotracer 18F-IRS for molecular imaging mutant EGF Receptors in vitro and vivo. Uptake and efflux of 18F-IRS were performed with four NSCLC cell lines including HCC827, H1975, H358 and H520. In vivo tumor targeting and pharmacokinetics of the radiotracers were also evaluated in HCC827, H1975, H358 and H520 tumor-bearing nude mice by PET/CT imaging. Ex vivo biodistribution assays were performed to quantify the accumulation of 18F-IRS in vivo. We also performed 18F-IRS PET/CT imaging of three patients with NSCLC. We labeled this small molecule with QD620 for flow cytometry and confocal imaging analyses. The uptakes of 18F-IRS by HCC827 and HCC827 tumors were significantly higher than those of H358, H1975 and H520, and they were reduced by the addition of 100 μM of gefitinib. Biodistribution experiments showed an accumulation of 18F-IRS in tumors of HCC827 xenografts. Flow cytometry and confocal imaging with QD620-IRS further demonstrated that binding specifically to HCC827 cells. 18F-IRS accumulation was preferential in the tumor, which was NSCLC with responsive EGFR exon 19 deleted. 18F-IRS showed high binding stability and specificity to 19 exon deleted EGFR mutation in vitro and vivo.


Definition of ideal configuration for femoral neck screw fixation in older people.

Femoral neck fractures are the most common injuries encountered by older individuals, and they are associated with high mortality and morbidity. Internal fixation to femoral neck fracture with cannulated screws placed with a configuration of an inverted triangle remain a feasible and effective treatment for femoral neck fractures. The objection of this research was to evaluate the femoral neck morphology, especially the shape of the femoral neck in Chinese people to find the optimal screw position and interval between the screws. 96 consecutive normal subjects without any previous proximal femur operation were reviewed. The patients' information were collected from our database. The minimum of neck canal height (NCHM), neck canal width (NCWM) and inclination angle (AIA and PIA) were measured in different level. There was a significant difference between the AIA and PIA, neck canal height at inferior and superior 1/3 on posterior wall (NCHIP and NCHSP). Although there was a significant difference between the neck canal height at inferior and superior 1/3 on anterior wall (NCHIA and NCHSA, p < 0.001), but the changes were small. The shape of the anterior wall was perpendicular to the horizon and almost parallel with the FNA. In contrast, the shape of the posterior wall resembled a reverse question mark. The inverse triangular fixation was in accordance with the morphology of the femoral neck, and triangular fixation had a high risk of perforation, which may lead to nonunion and avascular necrosis. The anterior screw can be inserted easily with the help of a C-ARM, and the posterior screw positioned mildly posterior to the femoral shaft axis is recommended.
