Paraoxonase-1 and oxidized lipoprotein lipids. The Cardiovascular Risk in Young Finns Study.

  • Petri Kresanov‎ et al.
  • Atherosclerosis‎
  • 2015‎

Paraoxonase-1 (PON1) is suggested to have a role in the antioxidant activity of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). PON1 activity levels are strongly genetically determined by the rs662 polymorphism (PON1 Q192R). To clarify the role of PON1 in lipoprotein oxidation at the population level, we examined the relations between PON1 activity, the rs662 polymorphism and oxidized lipoprotein lipids in young adults.

Talin and vinculin are downregulated in atherosclerotic plaque; Tampere Vascular Study.

  • Magdaléna von Essen‎ et al.
  • Atherosclerosis‎
  • 2016‎

Focal adhesions (FA) play an important role in the tissue remodeling and in the maintenance of tissue integrity and homeostasis. Talin and vinculin proteins are among the major constituents of FAs contributing to cellular well-being and intercellular communication.

Genetic variants primarily associated with type 2 diabetes are related to coronary artery disease risk.

  • Henning Jansen‎ et al.
  • Atherosclerosis‎
  • 2015‎

The mechanisms underlying the association between diabetes and coronary artery disease (CAD) risk are unclear. We aimed to assess this association by studying genetic variants that have been shown to associate with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). If the association between diabetes and CAD is causal, we expected to observe an association of these variants with CAD as well.

Kindlin 3 (FERMT3) is associated with unstable atherosclerotic plaques, anti-inflammatory type II macrophages and upregulation of beta-2 integrins in all major arterial beds.

  • Niku Oksala‎ et al.
  • Atherosclerosis‎
  • 2015‎

Kindlins (FERMT) are cytoplasmic proteins required for integrin (ITG) activation, leukocyte transmigration, platelet aggregation and thrombosis. Characterization of kindlins and their association with atherosclerotic plaques in human(s) is lacking.
