Rates of β-amyloid accumulation are independent of hippocampal neurodegeneration.

  • Clifford R Jack‎ et al.
  • Neurology‎
  • 2014‎

To test the hypotheses predicted in a hypothetical model of Alzheimer disease (AD) biomarkers that rates of β-amyloid (Aβ) accumulation on PET imaging are not related to hippocampal neurodegeneration whereas rates of neurodegenerative brain atrophy depend on the presence of both amyloid and neurodegeneration in a population-based sample.

β-Amyloid PET and neuropathology in dementia with Lewy bodies.

  • Kejal Kantarci‎ et al.
  • Neurology‎
  • 2020‎

β-Amyloid (Aβ) pathology is common in patients with probable dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). However, the pathologic basis and the differential diagnostic performance of Aβ PET are not established in DLB. Our objective was to investigate the pathologic correlates of 11C-Pittsburgh compound B(PiB) uptake on PET in cases with antemortem diagnosis of probable DLB or Lewy body disease (LBD) at autopsy.

Effect of intellectual enrichment on AD biomarker trajectories: Longitudinal imaging study.

  • Prashanthi Vemuri‎ et al.
  • Neurology‎
  • 2016‎

To investigate the effect of age, sex, APOE4 genotype, and lifestyle enrichment (education/occupation, midlife cognitive activity, and midlife physical activity) on Alzheimer disease (AD) biomarker trajectories using longitudinal imaging data (brain β-amyloid load via Pittsburgh compound B PET and neurodegeneration via (18)fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET and structural MRI) in an elderly population without dementia.

β-Amyloid PET and 123I-FP-CIT SPECT in Mild Cognitive Impairment at Risk for Lewy Body Dementia.

  • Qin Chen‎ et al.
  • Neurology‎
  • 2021‎

To determine the clinical phenotypes associated with the amyloid-β PET and dopamine transporter imaging (123I-FP-CIT SPECT) findings in mild cognitive impairment (MCI) with the core clinical features of dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB; MCI-LB).

Plasma and CSF neurofilament light: Relation to longitudinal neuroimaging and cognitive measures.

  • Michelle M Mielke‎ et al.
  • Neurology‎
  • 2019‎

We aimed to (1) assess and compare baseline plasma and CSF neurofilament light (NfL) for cross-sectional and longitudinal associations with neuroimaging or cognition and (2) determine whether change in plasma NfL corresponded with change in these outcomes.

Hippocampal volumes predict risk of dementia with Lewy bodies in mild cognitive impairment.

  • Kejal Kantarci‎ et al.
  • Neurology‎
  • 2016‎

To predict the risk of probable dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) competing with Alzheimer disease (AD) dementia by hippocampal volume (HV) in patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) with impairments in amnestic or nonamnestic cognitive domains.

Plasma Neurofilament Light for Prediction of Disease Progression in Familial Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration.

  • Julio C Rojas‎ et al.
  • Neurology‎
  • 2021‎

We tested the hypothesis that plasma neurofilament light chain (NfL) identifies asymptomatic carriers of familial frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD)-causing mutations at risk of disease progression.

White Matter Degeneration Pathways Associated With Tau Deposition in Alzheimer Disease.

  • Jianqiao Tian‎ et al.
  • Neurology‎
  • 2023‎

The dynamics of white matter (WM) changes are understudied in Alzheimer disease (AD). Our goal was to study the association between flortaucipir PET and WM health using neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging (NODDI) and evaluate its association with cognitive performance. Specifically, we focused on NODDI's Neurite Density Index (NDI), which aids in capturing axonal degeneration in WM and has greater specificity than single-shell diffusion MRI methods.

Randomized controlled trials in mild cognitive impairment: Sources of variability.

  • Ronald C Petersen‎ et al.
  • Neurology‎
  • 2017‎

To examine the variability in performance among placebo groups in randomized controlled trials for mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
