| Bergmann Glial Cell | Type of radial astrocyte in the cerebellar cortex that have their cell bodies in the Purkinje cell layer and processes that extend into the molecular layer, terminating with bulbous endfeet at the pial surface. Bergmann glia express high densities of glutamate transporters that limit diffusion of the neurotransmitter glutamate during its release from synaptic terminals. Besides their role in early development of the cerebellum, Bergmann glia are also required for the pruning or addition of synapses. | SAO:1299495391 | term | ILX:0101234 | 23620.98 | Radial Astrocyte, Astrocyte, Macroglial Cell, Glial Cell, Nervous system cell, Cell, Anatomical entity, Independent continuant, Continuant | Bergmann glia, Bergmann astrocyte |
| Purkinje cell layer of cerebellar cortex | A cell layer of the cerebellar cortex, characterized by a single sheet of very large, bottle-shaped Purkinje neurons that are regularly spaced and possess flattened fanlike dendritic arborizations, lying deep to the molecular layer and superficial to the granule cell layer. | UBERON:0002979 | term | ILX:0109545 | 123.68773 | Cell layer, Regional part of nervous system, Regional part of body system, Anatomical entity, Independent continuant, Continuant | Pk, cerebellar Purkinje cell layer, cerebellum Purkinje cell layer, cerebellum Purkinje layer, Purkinje cell layer, nucleus thalamicus reticularis, nuclei reticulares (thalami), nucleus reticularis, reticular nucleus thalamus (Arnold), reticulatum thalami (Hassler), nucleus reticulatus (thalami) |
