Issue
This antibody recognizes the bacterial β-galactosidase protein, but not the mammalian β-galactosidase protein. It has been used by authors to detect the mammalian protein, which should not not work. According to manufacturer this is suitable only for E-Coli.
"While endogenous mammalian β-galactosidase protein is used as a marker for senescent cells, while the E. coli β-galactosidase protein is a component of the versatile LacZ reporter system used for genetics experiments. While these enzymes have the same name, catalyse the same reaction, and share a useful substrate in X-Gal, they are otherwise related to separate lines of scientific inquiry." - Sholto David (for better science blog)
