Notes: In 1989, a femal sprague-Dawley rat with spontaneous cataracts was observed in the Upjohn Pharmaceuticals Limited Tsukuba Research Laboratory colony. The cataract was demonstrated to be hereditary and it was determined that there are two cataract types with different onset ages.
