The Human Islet Research Network (HIRN) helps to organize and support collaborative research related to the loss of functional beta cell mass in Type 1 Diabetes. The model organism view is a list of model organisms used by HIRN researchers. The "Name" column links to the HIRN individual model organism pages, and the "Research Resource Identifier" column links to individual resource page from its repository, where more information can be found.

NOD/SCID-GFP | RRID:IMSR_JAX:017619 | From Jackson Labs: This compound mutant strain combines the immunodeficiency features of the Prkdcscid mutation and widespread fluorescent cell labeling capabilities of CAG-EGFP on the NOD genetic background. These mice are effective recipients of allogeneic and xenogenic grafts, and are an excellent source of fluorescent-labeled cells for transfer experiments. | mouse | Congenic Strain; Spontaneous Mutation; Transgenic Strain | Genotype by PCR | PMID:26773144 | NOD.Cg-Prkdcscid Tg(CAG-EGFP)1Osb/KupwJ
alphaiAKO | alpha cell-inducible Arx knockout harboring a Cre-recombinase-sensitive floxed Arx allele; a cell lineage tracing system for reporting on the effects of Arx inactivation on alpha cell fate. In alphaiAKO islets, Dox exposure stimulates Cre recombinase expression specifically in Gcg+ alpha cells. Cre then inactivates the floxed Arx allele and activates YFP transgene expression from the Rosa26 locus. (see related strains: alphaiDKO and alphaiADKO) | mouse | Targeted Mutation | Genotype by PCR | PMID:28215845
EIIACre;Mnx1fl/fl | Used for cell type-specific Mnx1 functional analysis. Mouse has global null phenotype with dorsal pancreas agenesis and normal ventral pancreas formation. | mouse | Transgenic Strain | Genotype by PCR | PMID:26534984
Pax6-Cre | RRID:MGI:3045749 | Transgenic mice with a Pax6 promoter fragment driviving expression of Cre and GFP in the surface ectoderm, developing lens, cornea, and pancreas. | mouse | Transgenic Strain | Genotype by PCR | PMID:28591638
Ins2-rtTA;tet-p16;tet-GFP | Derived from the Ins2-rtTA;tet-p16 strain, with the added benefit of allowing p16+ cells to be sorted by GFP. | mouse | Transgenic Strain | Genotype by PCR | PMID:26950362
Ffar2-KO | RRID:MGI:4367910 | The Ffar knock-out mouse was used to test the effects of FFAR2 on insulin secretion. Phenotyping shows no differences for glucose homeostasis on normal or high-fat diet (HFD); marginally significant defect in insulin secretion during hyperglycemic clamps; diminished GSIS from islets under high-glucose conditions; on HFD, gains less weight than WT controls, has improved glucose control and lower HOMA index, and has higher energy expenditure accompanied by higher core body temperature. | mouse | Targeted Mutation | C57BL/6J | Genotype by PCR | PMID:26075576
Cenpatm1a(EUCOMM)Wtsi (centromere protein A KO) | RRID:MGI:4442037 | Strain carrying the Cenpatm1a(EUCOMM)Wtsi allele (a KOMP allele). A (floxed) allele can be created by flp recombinase expression in mice carrying this allele. Subsequent cre expression results in a knockout mouse. If cre expression occurs without flp expression, a reporter knockout mouse will be created. Further information on targeting strategies used for this and other KOMP alleles can be found at http://www.knockoutmouse.org/aboutkompstrategies. | mouse | Targeted Mutation | Genotype by PCR | PMID:28286049
alphaiDKO | alpha cell lineage tracing system with floxed alleles to inactivate Dnmt1 (see related strains alphaiAKO, which inactivates only Arx, and alphaiADKO, which inactivates both Dnmt1 and Arx). | mouse | Targeted Mutation | Genotype by PCR | PMID:28215845
