A biomedical and genomic research center that is independently governed and supported as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit research organization and formally affiliated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard University and its affiliated hospitals. It encompasses three types of organizational units: core member laboratories, programs and platforms which work together ?? and with other collaborators ?? to tackle critical problems in human biology and disease. They generate a lot of data and develop the cutting edge software tools to analyze those data (increasingly large genome-related datasets) which is shared openly with the scientific community. The Broad faculty includes core members and associate members. All associate members hold primary appointments in a home department at one of the partner institutions, but are deeply involved in the scientific work and culture of the Broad Institute.

SciCrunch is a data sharing and display platform. Anyone can create a custom portal where they can select searchable subsets of hundreds of data sources, brand their web pages and create their community. SciCrunch will push data updates automatically to all portals on a weekly basis. User communities can also add their own data to scicrunch, however this is not currently a free service.
